Great tension in the stadium! Almost 19,000 fans started the countdown and sent the 30 athletes into the race. Only for a short time the field stayed together until the first attack came.
Together with compatriot Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen Johannes Thingnes Boe set a first sign right at the beginning of the race that he will again be the one to set the pace.
After the first shooting the two Frenchmen Quentin Fillot Maillet and Fabien Claude were able to take the lead, but only for a short time - Christiansen and Boe made up for their mistakes on the track.
The German team was within striking distance after the first shooting with Kühn, Strelow and Zobel. Also after the 2nd shooting Justus Strelow and David Zobel were still well in the race with ranks 4 and 5.
At the top Johannes Thingnes Boe, Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen and Fabien Claude were dueling. And again there was a change after the shooting. This time Tarje Boe took the lead, while his brother completed the penalty loop like a flash and stayed in the lead.
Also the last shooting brought Johannes Thingnes Boe again into the penalty loop. With three misses in his luggage he went into the final lap only a few seconds behind Christiansen and demonstrated his superiority. He won the last race in Ruhpolding ahead of his relay colleagues Christiansen, Laegreid and his brother Tarje.
As the best Frenchman Emilien Jaqueline finished in 5th place. Justus Strelow convinced especially at the shooting range and finished so well in eighth place.
Benni Doll's again strong running was unfortunately not of much use at the end: five mistakes let him finish on 15th place.
