Finally it started! The World Cup week in Ruhpolding took place with the men's individual race over 20 kilometers.
And the fans were there live again! Almost 10,000 visited the Chiemgau Arena on the first day to join in the excitement and cheering. The famous "YEAH", with which every hit of a German athlete is commented, sounded several times through the arena and gave hope for good results.
Johannes Thingnes Boe, who already started the race with number 3, opened the chances for the opponents with a mistake in the first shooting. He even put a 2nd mistake on top of it, nevertheless again nobody could prevent him from leaving the arena as the winner.
His compatriot Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen defended 2nd place with an almost flawless shooting. Perfect shooting allowed Jakov Fak from Slovenia to jump on the podium to 3rd place.
A strong 6th place was taken by Benedikt Doll, who once again became the best German with only one miss. Roman Rees in 13th place and Johannes Kühn in 17th place are the next Germans in the results list.
The individual competition as the longest distance is a "tough one". Due to the penalty minute per mistake the shooting gets an even greater importance. Nevertheless, Johannes Thingnes Boe managed to make up for two shooting mistakes with a strong running performance.
The race could be carried out regularly until the end, even though the live broadcast was unfortunately interrupted at times by power failure.
Tomorrow it's going on with the women's single, 14.10 o'clock at the same place.
